Study Background

 

As we enter a new year, quantilope was eager to see how consumers are prioritizing their food and beverage choices, and where brands have an opportunity to adapt to changing preferences and trends.

This study examines the biggest food & beverage trends going into 2021 with focus on sustainability, health, packaging, and shopping behaviors.

Methodology Overview

 

Methods: This study includes two MaxDiff analyses, as well as an implicit single association test (SAT). 

Timing: This study was conducted in January 2021, using an online, quantitative approach. 

Sample: N=500 US respondents (18-69), representative to the general population.

Which food brands do consumers view as sustainable?

 

More than half of respondents (55%) consider it very important that the brands they buy emphasize sustainability in their products. 

In an open-source question, consumers were asked which brands come to mind when they think about sustainability. The results show an interesting mix between large enterprise food brands, smaller manufactures, and brands focused on the meat-alternative category.
